Today, Ukrainians around the world celebrate Vyshyvanka Day — a celebration of the vyshyvanka, the traditional Ukrainian embroidered garment. For every Ukrainian, vyshyvanka is a symbol of culture, identity, and traditions passed down through generations.
Every ornament and pattern on a vyshyvanka has its own meaning. Traditionally, embroidery was believed to symbolize protection, strength, prosperity, and connection to one’s roots. Different regions of Ukraine also have their own unique embroidery styles, colors, and symbols.
